AERIAL RECORDING is a studio in the Perth hills, near Mundaring, built for musicians looking to record their music in big, comfortable rooms with great vibe.
The nine room building dates from the 1950s when it was a Shell Service Station and offers a mix of sound spaces from amp rooms, a sonically dead isolation room - perfect for intimate vocal and great drum sounds, or the spacious 11m x 7.2m main recording room with 4.2m ceilings for capturing great live acoustic sounds in a real space.
AERIAL has a large collection of analog keyboards including a 1963 Hammond A100 (A B3's big brother), a Prophet 5 and many other classic 70s synths and acoustic and electric pianos. There are also a range of other instruments, effects, stringed instruments and vintage amplifiers.
In an excellent collection of vintage and high end microphones we have one of the finest microphones in the world - a rare Wagner U47W which is famous as one of the greatest vocal mics ever to be made. There is also a pair of ribbon micophones once owned by Frank Sinatra and a range of other vintage classics from the 50s to 70s. We record through an analogue console specifically designed for the studio by Ekadek (www.ekadek.com) built from authentic 80 series Neve console amplifier cards, point to point wiring and genuine passion. Recordings are made either to the Ampex 8 track tape machine, for extra flavour, or to the wonderful sounding Prism Orpheus and Apollo converters.
